Especially in the last five years, the transformative potential of PPG-CiAC’s interdisciplinary approach has become evident in the northern State of Rio de Janeiro. Students, alumni, and faculty of the Program, for example, were involved in the implementation and activities of the Campaign Laboratory for mass RT-PCR testing for COVID-19 in Macaé and the region, which operated at NUPEM/UFRJ during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The studies conducted alongside the testing made it possible to diagnose and monitor the gradual resumption of activities in Macaé and the surrounding region, which includes a significant workforce from the oil and gas industry.

Several PPG-CiAC students hold prominent positions in various sectors, including public secretariats, companies, NGOs, and especially federal institutions (staff at UFRJ, UFRR, IFF, ICMBio).
